192. සරළුවකට වඩා || nothing more in life than a spoon

විටෙක මා සිත කියයි
හැන්දක් පමණක්ය අවැසි මට ජිවිතයට...
හැකිය මට බුදින්නට අහර,
නැතිනම් බොන්නට මට නියමිත බෙහෙත.
තැලිය හැක නිදන මැස්සන් සැනින්,
නැතිනම් ගන්නට අවධානය මේසයට තට්ටුකල මොහොතින්.
පුලුවනිය දිගුකර චෝදනා කරනට දෙවියන්ට,
එලෙසම අනින්නට ඇතිතරම් හිස් අවකාශයට.
බැලියහැක හැන්දෙහි කැටපතින් මගේ කුඩා මුහුණ
දිදුලන අයුරු එහි මුහුණතින්,
නැතිනම් වසා දැමුමට එකැසක්
ලොවෙන් අඩකුත් අතුරුදන් වනතුරු.
හැන්දකින් හැකිය මට
නිදහසට ඇති බිංගෙය කණින්නට,
හැන්දක් පුරා කසළද
සඳ එලිය එකතුකළ ජිවිතයද
කෑලි කපන අඳුරට
දමාගැසිය හැකිය මට!

Some days I think I need nothing
more in life than a spoon.
With a spoon I can eat oatmeal,
or take the medicine doctors prescribe.
I can swat a fly sleeping on the sill
or pound the table to get attention.
I can point accusingly at God
or stab the empty air repeatedly.
Looking into the spoon's mirror,
I can study my small face in its shiny bowl,
or cover one eye to make half the world
disappear. With a spoon
I can dig a tunnel to freedom,
spoonful by spoonful of dirt,
or waste life catching moonlight
and flinging it into the blackest night
